When writing down your window blind measurements, always record the width before the height (W x H)
When measuring the width of your windows, round the result down to the closest 1/8-inch. When measuring the height of your windows, round the result up to the closest 1/8-inch.
Window blind slat width sizes are usually 1/2-inch micro, 1-inch mini, 2-inch, and 2-1/2-inch. For your inside mounted window blinds to be mounted flush with the outside casing, allow an extra 1/2-inch for vinyl, wood, and faux wood blinds and an extra 3/4-inch for aluminum blinds in total jamb and casing depth. For example, a 1-inch mini would require 1 1/2 inches and a 2-inch aluminum blind would require 2 3/4 inches. If there isn't enough unobstructed depth, you will have to use an outside mount.
Measuring for outside mounted blinds
If you'd like to hide an unappealing window or need to make a small window look larger, we recommend an outside mount. The mounting hardware is usually attached to the window casing. Remember to begin your measurements from the point where your window blinds will be mounted. Measurements for outside mounted window blinds can be less exact than for inside mounted blinds.
Measuring for inside mounted blinds
The mounting hardware for inside mounted blinds is attached to the inside of the window jamb. Follow the tips for depth measurement listed under general measuring tips. For height and width, measure at three different points on the window, i.e. left, center, right, and top, middle, bottom. That way if the window is out of square you will be using the most compatible measurement for your blinds. Use the smallest of the three width measurements and the largest of the three height measurements.
